I would expect the pathos of the war in Amc, to which a guy cuts off a woman’s head with a cry of Allahu Akbar – Hell itself film review

I start my lines with a personal confession: I was afraid, I was afraid of this film like fire, because I couldn’t imagine what a war film could offer in 113 minutes, or almost two full hours, in which an American soldier trapped behind enemy lines is directed by Russell Crowe from the room where you are currently staying, representing the peaceful tranquility of the base. It seemed that

the trailer already shows everything that this concept is capable of, and the result certainly felt boring enough for me to approach the press screening a little frivolously,

at which far fewer people showed up than usual, so I wasn’t alone with my intuition.

On stage again

Another question is whether I still trusted the New Zealand-Australian actor. Well, no The Pope’s Exorcistknown from , in Russell Crowe, a little rascal, whom Father Amorth would have deserved more, but in his younger self. In the one who a Romper Stomperburst into the world of layered films, bald people and metalheads, and then made his way to Hollywood blockbusters such as Gladiatorwhose Maximus has provided posterity with a great and easily remembered role to this day.

Father Gabriel Amorth is not just a movie actor The Pope’s Exorcistfrom, but a real person who actually worked on exorcisms, and was even considered the most wanted exorcist priest in the Vatican, who was the appointed exorcist of the Diocese of Rome from 1986, until his death. According to his own admission, he performed more than 60,000 exorcisms, and also encountered many interesting cases, which the Experiences of an Exorcist he also wrote in an autobiographical volume entitled I definitely recommend this book to those interested in the topic, but also to skeptics, because it can have an impact even on them. And although the aforementioned movie treats the figure of the father with respect, somehow you don’t feel the energy, strength and strong faith that almost oozes from the book.

So the basic setup is that Kinney (Liam Hemsworth) as a true green ear is sent on a sharp mission alongside the Delta Squad to free an agent from captivity somewhere deep in enemy territory in the Philippines. Kinney delayed his plane due to some upset stomach, so he joined the professionals, whom he helps with the drone and the drone pilot at the base (Kaszás, or Crowe), since together they can not only explore the area more easily, but also provide air support with the missiles carried by the drone can provide to the team.

Of course, as you can guess, everything goes in the wrong direction, the whole action is interrupted by a warlord who suddenly appears out of nowhere,

And for Kinney and his squad, very quickly survival remains the only really important goal.

Hell itself 2

The Reaper, who saved lives here

The first surprise is that William Eubank’s direction builds much more slowly and excitingly than anyone would think based on the trailer, and the beautifully curved story is presented not only with outstanding moments, but also with serious tension. Of course, the director doesn’t have to go next door for suspense, because it is Ditchhe delivered one of the best and most surprising horror films of 2020 to the cinema. THE Hell itself introduces the characters, the location, and then, in an unpleasant situation of the deployment, not only throws them into hell, but also drives the main character through all the corners, so that the style of the ending can no longer be said for sure. Of course, there is some pathos here too, we get what we deserve, and in the last quarter the mood settles down a bit,

but even so, it runs to an outstanding performance from the understated story, which is worth raising your hat to.

And then there is another important element of the realization, the pair of Crowe and Hemsworth. I like those films that are limited to a minimal space, the plot is driven by the dialogue of two characters, the Hell itself but it’s a bit like that. Although others play a role, and one of the main locations is a fairly open field, the basics of the concept were borrowed from the likes of The booth obsession the Buried alivewhich is no small achievement.

Hell itself 3

Classic action movie

Another important element. THE Hell itself it reminds one of classic action movies, with all their positive characteristics. The year 1985 immediately comes to mind Commandoof Arnold Schwarzenegger walking casually with the huge log over his shoulder, and Bruce Willis crawling through the vent as John McLane. Of course, these are just such images, mood effects, with which the brain plays tricks on the viewer, but I definitely experience it as a success story somewhere, if I somehow managed to evoke the action films, war scenes, war heroes of the eighties and nineties, and on top of that, they even smuggled in tension. .

Hell itself 4

I would also like to point out that the idiotic jokes and drug dialogues characteristic of the last ten years are also missing, which are completely alien to life, instead there are normal dialogues, human moments, and what little joking there is, is really humorous,

and it’s not even PC in its own way

(prepares 3, 2, 1… for the heat wave of vegans).

All in all, it was possible to create a fairly correct, certainly enjoyable, even surprisingly intriguing and atmospheric film from the basic theme, which is marred by a few minor flaws and loses a bit of its momentum at the end, but the truth is that I expected only and only worse than this . Either I was expecting a boring end result, or a blunder like at the beginning of the year The beekeeper volt. Well, the end result is much more demanding.

The 113-minute Hell itself can be seen in Hungarian cinemas from April 25, viewing is not recommended for people under the age of 18.
