Prince William pulled the lid off a big secret that he had to hide from Princess Katalin for three weeks. The heir to the throne and his wife announced their engagement in November 2010, but their relationship has kept the world abuzz ever since, just like any other topic related to the English royal family. Moreover, the marriage of the Prince and Duchess of Wales is always in the spotlight, especially these days, as they celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary on April 29.
Royal expert Robert Hardman says of the announcement of Catherine and William’s engagement that it was preceded by months of anticipation. “When a royal couple announces they’re engaged, we’re in awe of everything from the dress design to who the bridesmaids and groomsmen will be and where we’ll be able to watch the wedding,” she detailed. “People like to spice up the day with street parties and other things, so there’s been a lot of interest from the beginning.”
Indeed, Prince William and Princess Catherine caused quite a stir when they announced their engagement in November 2010. An interview was given to Tom Bradby about the proposal, where they revealed the details of the romantic holiday in Kenya, during which William proposed to his love with the engagement ring of his mother, Princess Diana. “This is the place where my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died,” the heir to the throne said at the time. “And when I decided where to propose to Katalin, I couldn’t think of a better place to get down on one knee than Kenya.”
Prince William also shared with the public that he kept the ring in his backpack for three weeks before popping the big question. “I knew if it disappeared, I’d be in big trouble,” she joked about the Ceylon sapphire ring surrounded by 14 sparkling diamonds.
