The lives of Hollywood stars are not all games and fairy tales. Among them are celebrities who have had to face serious financial problems.

A more affluent family background can often help aspiring stars in the entertainment industry hit the ground running, as they come to Hollywood with a built-in financial safety net. But there are some celebritieswho literally see the American film capital as a Dream Factory: they want to make their dreams come true from scratch.

So for those who don’t have dad’s infinitely deep wallet at their disposal, they have to support themselves (or their dream project) in other ways. That’s why there are so many aspiring actors in Hollywood stores as waiters, salesmen, and the like. This is also a solution. As is borrowing – the following stars spoke candidly about the latter.

In 2013, George Clooney called together 14 of his closest friends and handed each of them a bag containing 1 million dollars (HUF 371.5 million). “Over the course of 35 years, these guys have helped me a lot. I slept on their couch when I had nothing. I borrowed from them when I was burned out. They helped me when I needed it,” the actor justified the generous gesture. (Photo by Neil P. Barbie star Issa Rae launched her career with the web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. However, in order to make this happen, he maxed out all his credit cards, which, like Will Smith, meant $10,000 in debt. During the first season of the series, the fans supported him with 50,000 dollars (18.5 million forints), so he was able to start the second season completely debt-free.
