“I play a gangster like a preschooler plays a cowboy. I don’t live, I play my life” Ganxsta Zolee said in an interview with hvg360 that was published on Monday.

Among other things, the rapper talked about:

  • At the age of nine, he had his first realization that he was going to be a rock star, and later he “lost his way” due to punk music, his eternal favorites include GBH, Peter and the Test Tube Babies, Exploited and Sex Pistols, from these bands he felt he had to make music.
  • He hasn’t stopped since he founded his first band, there was only a short break after graduation, when he had to “get out of high school punk music and into life”.
  • He wanted nothing to come of it, as he only wanted to “drink and be a girl”, he had no desire for anything else, but since this was not possible, he worked for a while at a foreign trade company, but was fired in a short time because he was “ruining everything” and “he was unfit for work”.
  • Playing the drums instead of the guitar came by accident, but he learned quickly and it turned out that he has a great talent for the instrument. Then came the band Block, then Dance, metal, Sex Action, which brought in dirty rock and roll, then they switched to hardcore, and from there rap was just a step away. “And then you can finally come out from behind the drums to make girls, because you can’t see back there”, and finally they founded the rap band, Kartel.
  • Being a rapper in 1995 wasn’t easy, those who were rappers back then didn’t accept it, but he doesn’t mind that they had to deal with it, because he thinks it only made them paler.
  • Although he doesn’t think his lyrics from that time are good anymore, at the time, he says, they “sounded cool”. “We weren’t good either, but maybe the best of the bunch.” The lyrics of the American gangster rappers were translated into Hungarian, and only then did I start working from my own experiences, and we also had a connection with the underworld. “When these very angry faces, the members of the mafia, accepted us and took us in, we became their advocates. Then we had such a background that the dog couldn’t reach us.”
  • Although he comes from a family of intellectuals, he always hung out with car thieves and pub brawlers, as he was “always attracted to chicks”. As he says, “he overcame himself with very hard work”, and it took a long time to be accepted, they wanted to beat him many times.
  • He’s not a criminal and never claimed to be, they were just “half a foot in the world” but he believes that a gangster rapper doesn’t have to be a gangster any more than Clint Eastwood had to be a cowboy to play this role. At the same time, the rock and roll lifestyle with alcohol, drugs and sex is very authentic to him, as he says, he drinks every day and feels bad without alcohol.
  • He is not sure if he is suitable for a relationship. “I can’t help but go out with whoever I want, when I want. There is no way anyone is going to tell me this, and I don’t want to report it to anyone. I am my own boss”.
  • He is proud of the fact that at every festival, he was with the current, young, big names, not with bands that have gone out of business. According to him, this is because of his energy, as even today he constantly wants to do new things. “I play a gangster like a preschooler plays a cowboy. I don’t live, I play my life. That’s why we haven’t come out yet”.
  • Today, in the age of political correctness, he doesn’t even pay attention to what his lyrics are, in fact, he deliberately wants to use the words that blow the fuse, and on the basis of which people might assume that he is racist or misogynistic, but as he says, he is not at all about that he just wants to call a spade a spade. “I said to Kembe Sorel the other day, ‘What’s up, nigga?’ In the meantime, I would be the first to jump to fight next to him if real racists found him”.
  • “The more sensible one, who has a little something to eat, knows exactly how I think about this, and that I’m neither racist nor sexist, I also fuck girls only if they’re allowed to. She’s worth the same as me, of course, but it’s still fun to have fun with each other.” As he says, he hates this hypocritical world, which is polished on the outside, but rotten on the inside and everyone is getting meaner, so he goes directly against the PC aspirations.
  • He is so uninterested in politics that he doesn’t even know who the ministers are. This does not cause any tension between Dopeman and Dopeman, who has often expressed his support for Fidesz and with whom he will perform again at the January jubilee concert with the Kartel.

They are preparing for an anniversary concert

Next year, Ganxsta Zolee and Kartel will celebrate their thirtieth birthday with a spectacular concert. The gangster hip-hop team, supplemented by former members, will perform at the Budapest Sportarena on January 17, 2025.

Over the past thirty years, the band has toured almost every corner of the country, released thirteen studio albums, two EPs and concert albums, a compilation, and a tribute material was also published. The professional awards include four Golden Giraffe awards and two Phonogram awards. Over the years, Dopeman, Sámson and Steve also left the team, they returned for a short time, and then Lory B said goodbye again.
