The Japanese have stepped in: the successor to the Mazda6 is based on Chinese technology

--

The current Mazda6 has been with us since 2012, and there is no question of a successor – at least in Europe. Looking at the international level, the Japanese manufacturer has already stopped selling the model in some markets, and the legendary sedan did not receive a next generation in these countries either.

Then the EZ-6 model was unveiled in China, which at first may seem like an honest successor, but unfortunately it is not.

Developed in China by Changan Mazda, the EZ-6 is actually a Mazda-dressed Changan Shenlan SL03, also known as the Deepal SL03, a 2022 full-blooded Chinese model. All of this is also clearly visible in the interior of the EZ-6, where essentially no Mazda solution can be found: instead of restrained tech gadgets, passengers are welcomed on board by a giant central touch screen.

As an electric car, the EZ-6 boasts rear-wheel drive, a range of 600 kilometers, a multi-link rear suspension and a perfect 50:50 weight distribution. The model will also be available as a plug-in hybrid in China, in which case the magical range of a thousand kilometers has been promised by the manufacturer. In terms of dimensions, the novelty is slightly larger than the current Mazda6 model, at 4.92 meters long, 1.89 meters wide and 1.49 meters high. Official information on international distribution was not announced, but the Chinese bases and the measurement results published exclusively according to Chinese standards indicate that we will wait for this car outside the borders of the People’s Republic in vain.
