Opel Grandland 2024 – Drive

--

The brand new Grandland is the first Opel to use the STLA Medium floor plate, which is also used by the Peugeot 3008 / 5008 model pair. Today we know that it can even accommodate hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, and such will be available in Opel, but the company only revealed the PHEV’s range of 85 kilometers.

We have a bit more information about the electric drivetrain. The Grandland starts its career with a battery with a capacity of 98 kWh, a WLTP range of around 700 kilometers, and a 26-minute fast charging cycle. Energy consumption is reduced, among other things, by a heat pump. For the time being, Opel is not talking about the engine performance, but we know from the above-mentioned Peugeot models that the large battery is accompanied by two electric motor, all-wheel drive drivetrains with a total output of 240 kW (320 HP).

The model is 173 mm longer, 64 mm wider and 19 mm higher than its predecessor, so it has grown significantly – the dimensions of 4,650 x 1,905 x 1,660 mm skillfully position Opel between the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, easing the pressure within the concern competition risk.

The Opel Grandland takes the Opel Vizor to new heights, i.e. the nose part: on the one hand, the inserted Opel lightning lights up, and on the other hand, adaptive, high-resolution matrix LED headlights with 25,600 pixels per side have been used, which, in addition to more precise control of the light beam, create a spectacular, graphic light character it also enables drawing – Opel mentions this as a future possibility.

The magic of light also made it back: the Opel inscription was deepened into the strip connecting the lamps and illuminated – this will probably be adopted by other Opels in the future.

The 2784 mm wheelbase and up to 20-inch wheels promise an impressive stance and plenty of space. The trunk can be expanded to 1,641 liters by dividing the rear seats in a ratio of 40:20:40. At the back, the legroom is also 20 mm larger than in the predecessor model. The pinnacle of the passenger space storage options is a compartment with a transparent side wall, in which, as well as in the usual pockets and shelves, we can place a total of 35 liters of sweets.

The highlight of the passenger compartment is the 16-inch (!) central touch screen facing the driver, which is accompanied by a large-format digital instrument cluster and head-up display. The amount of information displayed on them can be minimized by activating a specially designed mode (Pure). The most frequently used on-board functions have dedicated physical switches.

Opel prides itself on spine-friendly seats, so it’s no wonder that the Grandland can also be equipped with AGR seats, which are newly equipped with electrically adjustable side cushions, as well as ventilated, massaging seats on the driver’s side. Another new feature is the Intelli-Seat function, which does not press on the tailbone thanks to a precisely positioned gap, so the seat remains comfortable even on long journeys, the upholstery of which is also made of 100% recycled materials.

The chassis is equipped with adaptive shock absorbers, which respond softly to sudden, high-amplitude shocks, but do not move the fine unevenness of the smooth asphalt, so at a comfortable pace, it reacts comfortably and sporty when driven.

The range of driver support functions also includes some semi-autonomous services, so that the car changes lanes automatically at the driver’s command and adapts to the speed limit.

There is no news yet about the details and schedule of the market launch.
