A week ago, IDC released its quarterly mobile phone sales statistics, which revealed that Apple sold 10 percent fewer smartphones globally in the first quarter, while Chinese competitors soared. According to recent figures from Counterpoint Research, it performed particularly poorly In China, the American tech giant Apple sold 19 percent fewer iPhones in the periodwhich is the biggest decline since the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, reports Bloomberg.

Meanwhile, Huawei really soared, selling nearly 70 percent more devices in China than a year earlier. The Mate 60 smartphone, which appeared on the market with a high-end chip and 5G support, played a big role in this. This brought about a major resurgence for the Chinese company after US sanctions in 2019 nearly destroyed the mobile phone business.

In China, where the overall mobile market grew by 1.5 percent in the first quarter, Apple is currently the third largest, while Huawei is the fourth largest in terms of sales volume.

Apple’s shares did not react to the news with a major movement, the stock is down 0.4 percent in pre-opening trading.
