What has happened on the stock markets so far?

The stock markets were weak practically all of last week due to fears of the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and expectations of interest rate cuts, and this did not change on Friday either. Although the Dow Jones rose by 0.6 percent, the S&P 500 fell by 0.9 percent and the Nasdaq fell by 2.1 percent.

Compared to this, the situation seems to be improving somewhat today, as the Asian stock markets rebounded, the Nikkei rose by 1 percent, while the Hang Seng strengthened by 2.1 percent, and the Singapore stock market rose by 1.2 percent.

Based on the signs, the mood improvement may also arrive in Europe, since the day may start with a rise based on the future indices.

What can be expected on the macro front?

The macro calendar is almost empty for today, only one EU consumer confidence index data will arrive in the afternoon.

However, the rest of the week offers many economic events and data releases, which can have a significant impact on both Hungarian and global markets. At home, we can first get excited about Tuesday’s MNB interest rate decision, and then on Friday, S&P Global Ratings will announce its new debt classification for Hungary. Overseas, the first-quarter US GDP data will arrive, followed by the publication of the March numbers of the PCE inflation indicator, which is the most watched by the Federal Reserve.

Meanwhile, the rapid reporting season continues in the United States, including Tesla, Meta, Apple, and Microsoft.
