The Ministry of Construction and Transport, responsible for the project, has completed the assessment of the waste in the Rákosrendező, in the area of the planned mini-Dubai investment. They say, “One of the largest illegal landfills in Budapest is being liquidated. The removal of waste, which in many cases has a serious health-damaging effect, is in the interest of the people living in the area and all of Budapest”. They found that the area affected by surface dumping is 126,425 square meters (12.6 hectares), and the total estimated amount of illegally disposed waste exceeds 190,000 cubic meters.

All of these would be delivered by the end of the year in addition to various security measures. At the same time, they do not yet know the extent of subsurface contamination. The design of a technical solution suitable for its exemption will only be completed by September 2025. And any kind of construction can only begin after the remediation has been completed, so in the best case, roughly in 2026.Népszava, which deals with the situation, writes that the disaster management still does not know why a fire broke out in Rákosrendező at the beginning of the month, where a significant amount – a stack of 100 meters long, 20 meters wide and 5 meters high – 10,000 cubic meters of sleepers burned under mysterious circumstances. “The fire investigation procedure is ongoing, so we cannot provide more information about the causes of the fire,” they answered the newspaper’s question.

The government wants to build a mini-Dubai, as it calls it, a new millennium district, in Rákosdenzénez with an Arab investment of 10 billion dollars. According to the latest news, Europe’s tallest skyscraper would also be built here. According to János Lázár, Viktor Orbán issued the mandate that after the urban development of the Andrássy family at the end of the 19th century, now is the time to build a “new millennium city center” – and the prime minister’s expectation is that “mediocre things cannot be built”.

The area and the so far known details of the planned investment have been presented in this article.
