Mouflons imported from the Czech Republic and Slovakia were introduced to Vojvodina, where the number of animals decreased significantly during the migrant crisis, wrote the Vajma.hu.

The reason for this, according to Roland Kókai, director of the Vojdaság Erdei Közvállalat, is that between 2015 and 2022 fallow deer and mouflons escaped from the originally fenced hunting area of ​​the Subotica forests, after this fence was also cut by illegal immigrants almost daily.

That is why they decided to import genetically selected individuals from abroad. After the installation, the population of both species recovered, so the commercial hunting of sand mouflons will resume next year.

By the way, from 2020, a total of around 100,000 euros were spent on new animals in the area, and the fence was also renovated and expanded.
