The year started off exciting exhibitionfrom the point of view of reason, many new exhibitions have opened, and museums and galleries have also announced their plans for 2024. New exhibitions open in the spring, and we offer an exciting program for fashion fans and photography lovers as well!

Kertész, Moholy-Nagy, Capa… / Hungarian photographers in America (1914–1989)

The new temporary exhibition of the Museum of Fine Arts opened at the beginning of April, which now focuses on photography. The works of photographers who emigrated to the United States of America can be seen in such a comprehensive manner for the first time in Hungary. The exhibition begins in the period before World War I and covers the period up to 1989. A total of 32 artists are featured with their works, visitors can view approximately 170 photos. The exhibition was realized together with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, thanks to the exhibition visitors can get to know the works of André Kertész, László Moholy-Nagy, Martin Munkácsi and Robert Capa better.

Divas & Icons

In May, a new temporary exhibition will arrive at the House of Hungarian Music, named Dívak & Ikonok. The exhibition was originally organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum, it can be viewed at this location in April, but it will arrive in Budapest in May. The exhibition is very popular in London, so far many people have seen the original performance clothes and costumes of famous figures in music history, thus getting closer to their art. At the exhibition, people can get to know the personal stories and creativity of artists such as Rihanna, Björk, Whitney Houston, Janelle Monáe, Tina Turner, Cher, Marilyn Monroe, Maria Callas, Edith Piaf, Ingrid Bergman and many more.

The puppet speaks – exhibition of Margit Anna’s (1913–1991) oeuvre

Anna Margit’s life exhibition opened in the Hungarian National Gallery in April, which presents the entire career of the painter. Roughly 200 paintings and graphics were exhibited, through which visitors can get a comprehensive picture of his art and personal experiences. Anna Margit lived and created during the most difficult period of the 20th century, and was also one of the founding members and prominent representatives of the European School group of artists operating between 1945 and 1948. It would be difficult to classify his works in just one style, surrealism and an expressive way of seeing appear in him.
