A painting by Gustav Klimt believed to be lost was auctioned for 30 million euros, or HUF 11 billion, the BBC reports. Portrait of Miss Lieserwas lost in 1925 and was found in January this year. The Austrian artist’s unfinished work was sold at the im Kinsky auction house in Vienna.

There were many unanswered questions about the picture. The work was commissioned by a wealthy industrial Jewish family in 1917, but it is not possible to say for sure who is in the picture. According to experts, the customer may depict a member of the Lieser family. By the way, the portrait was owned by the family until the middle of the 20th century, but then it disappeared.

According to its current owners, they have had the painting since at least the 1960s, but together with the legal heirs of the Lieser family, they decided to put it up for auction through the im Kinsky auction house.
